Infrastructure Software Engineer (Manchester, England)

Extremely bright and enthusiastic software developers are required to join a team developing both internal and external applications using high-level languages in a Unix/Linux environment. You will be expected to work with others on a variety complex technical issues, requiring innovative solutions that push technological boundaries. Someone who enjoys tackling technical challenges head-on, as part of a fantastic team, will not find a more rewarding job opportunity anywhere.

Responsibilities:

  • To design and implement a range of applications in Perl and Ruby, across multiple platforms.
  • To help maintain and improve our existing framework.
  • To work on internal and external web interfaces, databases, and other key systems.
  • To work as a part of a team in tackling complex, varied challenges.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of a high level language, such as Perl or Ruby, including OO design.
  • An interest in learning Perl and Ruby, if not known already.
  • Strong Linux operating system knowledge. System administration and other Unix experience is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and team-working skills.
  • Independently motivated, and able to work under pressure.

Preferred:

  • Experience of web development (or a keen interest to learn).
  • Experience in Javascript, AJAX, or Rails a plus.
  • Experience of database development and maintenance (or a keen interest to learn).
  • Experience in using source control systems, such as CVS or Subversion.
  • Previous experience in delivering large-scale software projects.
