Transitive® Extends Enterprise Product Line with QuickTransit® for Solaris™/SPARC®-to-Solaris™/x86

Innovative QuickTransit Solution Delivers Thousands of Additional Applications to Enterprise Customers Using New-Generation Solaris/x86 Servers

JAVA ONE, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., May 8, 2007 – Transitive® Corporation, the leading provider of software that enables transportability of  applications across multiple processor and operating system (OS) pairs, today announced QuickTransit® for Solaris™/SPARC®-to-Solaris™/x86, the latest addition to Transitive’s award-winning QuickTransit product line for enterprise customers.

For the first time, enterprise customers deploying the Solaris OS can run the extensive selection of commercial and in-house Solaris-based applications available on SPARC processors, not just on new SPARC-based platforms like Sun's CoolThreads™ servers but also on industry standard Solaris x86-based systems without modification to their source code or binaries, with full functionality, high performance, and in a way that is completely transparent to end-users and system administrators.

QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to- Solaris/x86 expands Transitive’s popular QuickTransit product line, and offers enterprise customers a choice of host operating system after they make the switch to industry-standard hardware, depending on their current IT strategy and future datacenter consolidation objectives. Transitive plans to continue extending the QuickTransit product line through 2008 and beyond, based on enterprise customer needs.

As with other versions of the product line, QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to- Solaris/x86 can be used in a number of innovative ways by customers. For example, it fits very well into a virtualization strategy using products such as VMware, because a virtual machine could be configured with a Solaris/x86 guest operating system and then the QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86 software. When multiple virtual machines are deployed on a single x86-based Sun host, then significant consolidation of Solaris/SPARC workloads can be achieved.  Another popular use of the QuickTransit solution is to deploy Solaris/SPARC workloads on x86-based platforms such as laptops, so that customers can enjoy the mobility and flexibility of portable systems without having to re-write or recompile their applications. By using the QuickTransit software as the preferred mechanism for deployments on x86-based systems, internal developers and ISVs can continue to maintain a single Solaris/SPARC code base and avoid the complexity of managing multiple platform-dependent projects.

Availability and Pricing
A beta release of QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86 will be available in July 2007, with the production release coming in September 2007.

Transitive plans to sign up more than 100 field testers for the beta release of QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to- Solaris/x86 to exercise the new software with the broadest possible array of customer applications, including commercial software products and a wide range of internally-developed code. As an added incentive, Transitive will offer prizes that include three Apple MacBooks (which incorporate a version of QuickTransit known as Rosetta) to field testers of QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86 who successfully run the largest and most diverse set of Solaris/SPARC applications.

Solaris customers interested in evaluating the beta release of QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86 can sign up at Booth #1307 at JavaOne, where Transitive will be demonstrating its QuickTransit solutions.

The new QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86 will be priced at $875 per populated processor socket as a 1-year subscription (including customer support). When deployed in a virtual machine, as used in the VMware or XenSource virtualization solutions, the QuickTransit software is priced per virtual machine rather than per physical processor socket.  Customers will be able to buy the product from Transitive directly, and it will be downloadable for evaluation and purchase from the Transitive Web site (www.transitive.com). QuickTransit products are also available through Transitive’s global channel partner network.
