Transitive® Celebrates Successful VMworld Europe 2008 With the Announcement of Apple MacBook and MacBook Air Winners

Four VMworld Europe Attendees Win Apple MacBook Prizes Featuring Innovative “Rosetta” Cross-Platform Virtualization Technology Developed by Transitive

LOS GATOS, CA, – March 10, 2008 – Transitive® Corporation, the leading provider of cross-platform virtualization software that enables transportability of applications across processor and operating system pairs, today announced the winners of its popular VMworld Europe 2008 conference promotions. During the three-day event in Cannes, France, the Transitive booth attracted a record crowd with its eye-catching red T-shirts and blue sunglasses, which were designed to commemorate the shipment of more than 10 million copies of Transitive’s cross-platform virtualization solutions.

The three daily winners of Apple MacBook laptop computers at Transitive’s VMworld Europe 2008 booth were:

  • Norberto Kueffner - Core Security Technologies (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

  • Simon Hribar – Unistar LC (Ljubljana, Slovenia).

  • Mehmet Demirel – Bechtle IT-Systemhaus GmbH (Dusseldorf, Germany).

In addition to the daily MacBook prize draws, Transitive offered a special Paparazzi Prize of a MacBook Air, which is promoted by Apple as the world’s thinnest laptop computer. Attendees were encourage to submit digital photographs of themselves wearing the Transitive T-shirt and sunglasses in a suitable “celebrity” pose, and a panel of judges selected the best entry, based on published criteria. The winner of the Transitive VMworld Europe 2008 Paparazzi Prize was:

  • Jozef Filas – Comparex Slovakia (Bratislava, Slovakia).

“Transitive congratulates each of the MacBook winners, and appreciates the time spent at the Transitive booth by the many hundreds of VMworld Europe 2008 attendees who were interested in learning more about cross-platform virtualization,” said Ian Robinson, vice-president of marketing for Transitive. “The Transitive judging panel had a challenging task, given the creativity shown by the many entrants for the Paparazzi Prize. The selection of MacBooks as prizes was appropriate, given that the innovative Rosetta technology built into every Intel-based Macintosh was developed by Transitive.”

Transitive’s QuickTransit® cross-platform virtualization solutions enable software applications to run on any hardware platform without any source code or binary changes and at speeds comparable to native ports. Transitive has fine-tuned its cross-platform virtualization technology to provide a unique solution to traditional workload mobility challenges. By deploying QuickTransit on the latest enterprise server platforms (often inside VMware virtual machines), enterprise data center managers can replicate workloads that were previously tied to a single hardware platform and run them unmodified, without incurring the costs and delays of porting projects, and without disruption to end users. Furthermore, such comparatively easy workload replication can provide the basis for more cost-effective business continuity solutions, including disaster recovery, application scalability and dynamic workload re-balancing.

To address the most common customer deployment scenarios, Transitive offers three configurations of its QuickTransit enterprise product line: QuickTransit Workstation is intended for use on desktop and laptop PCs; QuickTransit Server is used for large-scale datacenter consolidation projects; and QuickTransit Legacy is a specialized version intended for application re-hosting from very old legacy hardware running operating system versions that are no longer supported. QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86-64, QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Linux/x86-64 and QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Linux/Itanium are each available in all three configurations.

The complete QuickTransit product line is available from Transitive and its global distribution partners, which include HP, Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Red Hat. Evaluation versions of QuickTransit can be downloaded from the Transitive Web site at:

About Transitive Corporation

Transitive is a leader in cross-platform virtualization, and its award-winning QuickTransit technology has shipped in more than 10 million computers worldwide. QuickTransit allows software applications that have been compiled for one processor/operating system to run on a system with a different processor/operating system, without any source code or binary changes and at speeds comparable to native ports. As a result, QuickTransit allows data center managers to quickly and easily replicate legacy enterprise applications from the original hardware and allow them to run on more modern, standardized platforms without incurring the costs and delays of porting projects, and with no disruption to end users. This workload replication helps enterprise customers improve business continuity, including superior disaster recovery, scalability and high-availability solutions.

QuickTransit also facilitates computer companies’ migration to new hardware platforms; dramatically reduces software developers’ cost, risk, and time-to-market in supporting multiple hardware platforms; and makes significantly more software available for more hardware platforms. QuickTransit technology is the basis of the Rosetta software built into all of Apple’s x86-based Macintosh computers, and it also forms the basis of IBM PowerVM Lx86, which is available for IBM’s System p range of enterprise servers.

Transitive Corporation is located in Los Gatos, California with a research and development team in Manchester, UK. More information can be found at the Transitive Web site at www.transitive.com.
