The IT infrastructure group at your company just decided to move to a new strategic platform. The reasons for the change are compelling: better price/performance, lower power, smaller footprint, and lower TCO. To get the benefits of the new server platform, however, they need you to port your applications to the new server. It’s a big task on top of all the other priorities you have, and no one on the team is particularly excited about another porting project. As a result:

  • You put a multi-year porting program in place that dramatically slows the migration to the new strategic servers and delays the realization of the benefits associated with them; or
  • You delay other projects in order to make porting a top priority and deliver ported software much more quickly, but risk not being able to deliver the features and enhancements promised to the business groups who are your customers

With Transitive’s QuickTransit products, the barriers to porting software applications are dramatically reduced. QuickTransit hardware virtualization technology allows software applications that have been compiled for one processor and operating system to run on another computer with a different processor and operating system without requiring any source code or binary changes. Using QuickTransit technology, internal software development groups can:

  • Substantially reduce the cost and time required to support a new server platform
  • Eliminate the need for key engineering resources to get involved in a porting process
  • Focus on higher-value-added work that is critical for business operations

QuickTransit software allows translated applications to run on the target computer with:

  • Complete transparency
  • Full functionality
  • Graphic and interactive performance that is transparent to the user
  • Computational performance that is about 80% of what could be natively achieved on the new server, which is often faster performance than on the old one

“ Most enterprises have deployed a diversity of platforms within their IT infrastructure, based on a number of chip types, over time. The technology solution that Transitive has provided creates a different path for customers who want to migrate key applications from one server platform to another, as they work to consolidate workloads and to virtualize workloads across the enterprise. ”
